SEPTEMBER 25, 2012-Homeless residents in Erie's tent city will have to move out of their compound in the woods on West 14th and Chestnut by October 10th.

If they don't move, they may be taken to jail.

Residents met with CSX Rail Road company representatives for a meeting and agreed that they will move away from the compound, but some of the residents say it's not enough time to find a new place.

Almost 20 homeless residents have made the wooded area that is owned by CSX their home for nearly twenty years.

But after a man was hit by a train on the property a few weeks back, tent city people have been asked to leave.

CSX reps say the area is a safety hazard because it is too close to the train tracks and because the Tent City residents are trespassing on private property.

The Northwestern Pennsylvania Coalition to End Homelessness and the Mental Health Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania has stepped in to help.

They are still working on a plan as to where they can place the residents of Tent City.
