Changes Come to Annual North East Wine Fest
SEPTEMBER 29, 2012-The annual Wine Fest brings thousands of people to North East each
year, but this year organizers have made some changes.
Last year you had to purchase tokens to sample wine.
Now, you buy a wrist band at the gate for twenty five
dollars and get unlimited samples of wine all day.
You can no longer buy glasses of wine on site.
But you can now
buy bottles on site and drink them while you're there.
And finally, this year wineries are split into different
tents rather than everyone being under one big tent.
Organizers are expecting 20 thousand
people to check out Wine Fest.

Kim, I think the powers that be finally came to their senses about the way too many people who get shlockered at this event and then drive back home. The State Police just couldn't keep the public safe from the huge number of impaired drivers. And the Health Department had some pretty bad statistics to back up their case. 20000 people who didn't spend the night in North East means 20000 people behind the wheel after a booze fest. Yikes!!

For the last 10 years, I have looked forward to the wine fest in North East. This year was no different. Unfortunately, the changes that have been made, did not make for a fun night. I understand changes are expected to see how things can be made better, but the "unlimited samples" are really just a splash to cover the bottom of your glass. I felt like I was standing in a bar, drinking shots. The ability to purchase tokens is no longer available, so to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the bands or looking at the different vendors, you have to spend MORE money to purchase a bottle. Don't get me wrong, I love the Wine Fest and supporting local businesses, but I can honestly say that the money you had to spend this year just wasn't worth it. I hope some of the changes are "tweaked" and that next year is more enjoyable and the planning more thought out. You definately didn't get your moneys worth for the cost to get in.
