St Peter Evening Vespers
In
preparation for tomorrow's ordination of Bishop elect
Tonight
was the solemn prayer of the church, or evening vespers... With one very
important change.
It was a
full house at Saint Peter Cathedral...
To
welcome Bishop elect
In
the middle of the evening vespers, Bishop Trautman will bless four important
symbols that Bishop elect Persico will be presented with tomorrow morning...
His
ring...his miter...and his croisier, or pastoral staff, and pectoral cross.
The
ring symbolizes that Bishop elect Persico is now bound to this diocese... To
lead it, and remain faithful to Christ and his church.
The
miter is his liturgical head dress...that reminds him the one who serves the
lord will find everlasting happiness...
The
pastoral staff.. That should remind Bishop elect Persico that he is a Shepard
to serves gods people in 13 counties in northwestern
And
the pectoral cross... That he will wear over his heart, that marks him as a
true follower of Christ.
