Bishop Persico Ordained as Erie's 10th Catholic Bishop
A thousand people filled the sanctuary at St Peter Cathedral as Bishop-elect Lawrence Persico entered the church. More watched from the auditorium at Cathedral Prep and live on JET 24 and YourErie.com.
Dozens of priests began the precession into the Cathedral shortly after 2 pm.
They entered the beautifully decorated church followed by at least 29 bishops who came from all over Pennsylvania. They passed through lines of young parochial school students and bell ringers from Our Lady Christian School.
Bishop Donald Trautman gave a welcome to the congregation, that was followed by a long standing ovation, a thank you for his 22 years of service as the Bishop of the Erie
Catholic Diocese.
The ordination and installation of Bishop Persico as the 10th bishop of the Erie Diocese lasted about three hours.
