East Side Eagles Say Gun Violence Needs To End

October 2, 2012--After nine homicides just this year and a slew of gun violence on Erie's East side over the weekend, community members are now fighting back.

Some neighbors say they are sick of the gun violence and say it needs to come to an end.

Members of the neighborhood watch committee say police are doing all they can to help, but now it's in the neighbors hands.

We spoke with Steve Simmelkjaer of East Side Eagles neighborhood watch group.

Simmelkjaer tells us he and 50 other current neighborhood watch members will go knocking door to door to get more people involved.

The watch group also is planning on getting more kids involved.

Simmelkjaer says the youth typically know more about what's going on in the neighborhoods and they can help.

He also urges the youth to not be afraid to speak up because they could be saving lives.

On Thursday they will have an open meeting will be held at Rosedale Avenue in the vacant lot to bring surrounding neighborhood watch groups together.
