WQLN Responds to Gov. Romney Comment on Public Broadcast Funding

watch video

October 4, 2012 - WQLN officials in Erie are speaking out in response to Governor Mitt Romney's comment regarding funding for public broadcasting.

During the debate, the Republican challenger's comment about cutting funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting caught many people off guard.

Tom New, the creative services director at WQLN, thinks Romney was speaking more about the size of government then necessarily cutting funding for CPB.

"I think he was really speaking more towards a political philosophy of a small government," New said. "PBS was used as an example as well as big bird mostly because Jim Lehrer was in the room."

According to Politico, CPB was given $444.1 million during the 2012 fiscal year.

I agree with the previous commenter Scott S., with Romney as President, we'd see a LOT of things go by the way...it seems Mitt doesn't want ANY of the USA to learn anything, he WILL cut everything Educational if he gets a chance!!! and people...He is NOT kidding!! How can you trust someone who REFUSES to even tell, "WE THE PEOPLE", How he's going to help us???

I don%u2019t know what debate Tom New was watching. Romney clearly said that he planned to eliminate federal funding to PBS. That doesn%u2019t leave much room for interpretation and it shouldn%u2019t come as a surprise. The extreme right-wing has always talked about getting rid of PBS and the EPA, USDA, FDA etc.
