Workers at the General Electric plant will walk off the job for half a shift on Wednesday. At around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning third shift employees began walking out. The company and the United Electrical Workers Union opened negotiations on May 21st in New York City. Union officials say the walkout is to demonstrate solidarity among the rank and file. The work stoppages will last for four hours. First shifters are expected to walk out at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Second shift workers are set to walk out at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night. U.E. 506 has scheduled a rally for plant workers at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Erie Civic Center.
