SCI Albion Reports Inmate Death
October 26, 2012-Albion - State Correctional Institution at Albion Superintendent Michael Harlow reports the death of an inmate.
Stoney Lee Schaeffer, 44, was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 25.
Corrections staff immediately provided life-saving measures. He was taken to the institution dispensary where they were met by local emergency medical services.
Schaeffer was pronounced dead by the institutional physician.
As required by policy, institutional staff and members of the Pennsylvania State Police are conducting an investigation. The official cause of death will be determined by the Erie County Coroner's Office.
Schaeffer was serving a sentence of 5-to-20 years for burglary out of Lancaster County. He was most recently recommitted to state prison on June 16, 2004 as a parole violator, and had been at SCI Albion since June 29, 2012.
Facility staff has notified the inmate's next-of-kin.
