Municipal Changes Expected To Benefit Community
Big change is coming to two municipal buildings in downtown Meadville.
City officials are adapting to the new city hall location and the possibility of the court house expanding as well.
City officials and police moved into the new city hall location just under two weeks ago.
They say it will be beneficial to the community.
Meadville City Hall is calling the old National Guard Drill Hall on Diamond Park its new home.
Officials decided to move into the 13 thousand square foot building after they noticed their old building on Water Street was too big.
13 staff members including city administration and the police department will operate out of this location.
That project is expected to cost two point five million dollars.
The Crawford County Courthouse, a stones throw away from the new city hall, is in talks of expanding.
Officials say the current location is too small.
Officials are working with a design firm to move to the old Talon Building.
Administrative functions would stay at the courthouse, but judicial functions would move into the 119,000 square foot Talon Building on Arch Street.
City hall is supposed to be completed in early 2013.
The courthouse plan, including renovations and moving, will cost around 23 million dollars. A completion date hasn't been set.
