Standoff Ends Peacefully on Erie's West Side

NOVEMBER 23, 2012 A standoff sent police and SWAT rushing to a multi residential apartment complex on 1716 west 14th Street just after 3:15 Friday afternoon.

According to police, a man in his 20s under distress called 9-1-1 and asked police to shoot him or he was going to kill himself at his home.

Neighbors in the area looked on and hoped the standoff would end peacefully.

Police acted fast.... Several crews waited outside of his home... In a little over one hour, the man willingly exited his home.... The man will not be charged... He's being taken into mental health facilities... Police say the man has had a history of mental issues.
