Intermediate Unit Questioned by Superintendents
According to the Erie Times News, an assessment by accountant James Schaffner reportedly finds there were financial misdoings by the IU.
The IU provides districts with special education needs, the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit is one of 29 in the state.
George Joseph is the attorney for the IU, he says they knew an independent audit was being done on the intermediate unit.
Joseph says that before the independent audit was conducted, the IU was prepared to have its own conducted prior to Schaffner's report.
Joseph tells us Schaffner's accounting firm, Schaffner, Knight and Minnaugh and Company was contacted by the superintendents to go over the Intermediate Unit's finances.
According to the times news, Schaffner's report finds that $14.2 million is being improperly kept.
We reached out to James Schaffner multiple times today with no response.
We also didn't hear from Erie School Superintendent or the Millcreek School Superintendent.
The Millcreek School Board is expected to vote on an action plan on this matter tonight, we'll have more at
