PRESQUE ISLE DEER HUNT BEGINS
The controlled deer hunt at Presque Isle State Park is underway.
The three day hunt began this morning at 8 o'clock.
On each day of the hunt, 85 hunters will be allowed to hunt antlered and antlerless deer.
There is a need to trim the population each year because too many deer create big problems with the parks ecosystem.
The population right now is around 50 deer. Park officials say they like to keep that number below 30.
The caring capacity at the park for the deer is closer to 15.
The hunt ends this Friday.
You can access the park from the Stull Center during the hunt and the entire park is open after two each day.
