watch video

December 7, 2012 - That recent home invasion in Millcreek is one of many that have happened in the past few months.

Now, local security system companies are noticing an increase in interest from residents.

A rash of burglaries in MillcreekTownship have some residents concerned.

The owner of one local security system company says he's been busy.

Millcreek Police say they had more than 250 burglaries since the beginning of the year to October, that's usually the amount of burglaries in the township for the whole year.

With several days left in the month of December, that number will certainly exceed the previous year total.

The holiday season and uncertain economy could be to blame for the jump.

The president of Whitetail Electronics says this time of year he usually gets busy, but is now hearing more from Millcreek, Fairview and Erie residents.

Homeowners usually install an alarm system for peace of mind.

New home security technology allows you to relax while you're away because if you have a camera installed, you can view it when you're gone on your smart phone.

"We have app controls that you can use with your smart phone that you can interface with your security systems," said Gregg Butala, President Whitetail Electronics.
