watch video

December 21, 2012

Some controversy tonight in an neighborhood... putting two people who help the needy against one another.     Clara Ward and Floyd Lewis both say they want to help those in need.

Each have been serving the east Erie neighborhood near 21st and Reed for many years.

This morning... some confusion over the distribution of free food created some tense moments.

Was the scene this morning in front of the Joel two restoration Ministry at 22nd and Reed Streets.

This is the first year the man who runs the mission... Floyd Lewis.. has been distributing food for the Times Newies.

In the past... Clara Ward would hand out the Times Newies food boxes at the Second Baptist.

According to the Second Harvest Food Bank ... ward did not do what she needed to sign up for the program... meaning she did not partner with second harvest.

Officials with second harvest say ward knew this and went ahead and held a registration without authorization.

Ward says she is worried about the people being turned away... but those running the distribution say they will do what they can to help those in need.
