DECEMBER 20, 2012- Officials from the ErieBioscienceAcademyCharterSchool laid out their proposal to the Millcreek School Board.
If approved by the board, the 6th thru 12th grade biotech and bioscience charter would set up shop at the old Steris Corporation facility at 2424 West 23rd Street.... with an estimated operating cost of 2 million dollars for the first year.
Erie Bioscience Officials developed this charter in response to the growing health care science industry, and in an effort to improve the youth's science and math skills.
The attorney for the school board asked a series of questions... including what the curriculum would be, how security would work at the school and how traffic would be dealt with in the area...
But the biggest question was asked by the Millcreek School Board members: "How this was charter different than what's already available?"
ErieBioscienceAcademy officials say the difference is clear, and there is a strong need for a school of this nature.
The Millcreek School Board has 45 days before they can make a decision.
They can't go beyond 75 days.
If voted down, the ErieBioscienceAcademyCharterSchool could file an appeal.
