HARRISBURG JANUARY 3, 2013 -The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the Erie Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) fell to 7.6 in November, down two-tenths of a percentage point from the previous month. The November decline was the first drop in the unemployment rate for the MSA since May. Among the 14 MSAs in Pennsylvania, Erie tied with the York-Hanover MSA for the seventh lowest rate. Statewide, the unemployment rate decreased three-tenths to 7.8 percent, while the national rate dropped two-tenths to 7.7 percent. Over the year, the MSA's rate fell by two-tenths of a percentage point. In the same time period, the statewide rate was unchanged while the national rate had declined by a full percentage point. In the Warren MSA. the rate dropped from 6.8 % to 6.6%, and In Meadville's MSA, the improvement was .1% to 7.5%.
