Former Pa Senator to Receive J Robert Baldwin Award

January 7, 2013 -

Retired Pennsylvania State Senator Jane Earll will receive the J Robert Baldwin Award from the Economic Development Corporation.

The Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has hosted an awards dinner every year for the past 30 years but has only presented the J. Robert Baldwin Award four times in its history.

The J. Robert Baldwin Community Service Award was established in 1996 to honor this long-time volunteer chairman of the GEIDC.  Baldwin spent 40 years helping to establish and guide the various corporations involved in Erie County's economic development efforts.

"This award is not annual.  In fact, it is only given in special circumstances where the Board feels that an individual has contributed to our community in ways over and above their occupational commitment," said EDC President & CEO, John Elliott.  He added, "I am pleased and proud to announce the Economic Development Corporation's Joint Executive Committee decision to present the J. Robert Baldwin Award to former Pennsylvania Senator Jane M. Earll."

Jack Munch, outgoing EDC Board Chair, presided over the December meeting where it was unanimously decided that former Senator Earll was indeed deserving of this recognition.  According to Munch, "Jane Earll has been a driving force in our community for the past 16 years.  She has represented the people of Erie with the utmost integrity.  Known for her common-sense approach to legislating, she served at one time as chair of the Senate Transportation Committee and, most recently, chaired the Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee."

"As Senator, Jane Earll brought numerous state resources to our area, and was a valiant advocate for her home town.  It is with gratitude that the EDC recognizes her efforts and achievements during her 16 years of service," added Munch.

The award will be presented along with the Entrepreneur of the Year and Employer of the Year for 2012 at the EDC Annual Dinner on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Bayfront Convention Center.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased on line at www.edcec.org or by telephone at 814-899-6022.
