Golden Apple Award Winner: Mary Ellen Wilwohl
Don't you love it when someone goes the extra mile to help you make things happen?
That's exactly the work place spirit that's resulted in a Jefferson Elementary School teacher being nominated for this week's Golden Apple Award.
Lou Baxter has our report.
Mary Ellen Wilwohl is a learning support teacher at Jefferson Elementary School.
She's been teaching here 9 years and has been in the classroom more than 27 school years.
Mary Ellen Wilwohl, Golden Apple Award winner, says: "I got into education because of my mother ... students who need extra help."
The graduate of Merchurst College said she's got a special love for all children, but her heart is with those who need a little extra attention to help connect the dots in the classroom - like Paul Peterson, who along with his parents nominated Mrs. Wilwohl.
Paul Peterson, student nominator, says: "That she helps with....when I get them confused sometimes."
Paul: "It makes me feel good to know.... that's success."
Because she teaches the youngest students at Jefferson, this week's winner has become the go to teacher for many students.
Diane Madera, Jefferson School principal, says: "If the children ... what she does as an educator."
Congratulations to Mary Ellen Wilwohl, this week's Jet 24 Edinboro University Golden Apple Award winner.
