Las Vegas Coverage Recap

watch video

January 14, 2013 - JET24 reporter Elizabeth D'Aurora is back in the newsroom today after following Miss Pennsylvania in Las Vegas during her Miss America journey.

She chronicles her time behind the scenes:

After a long day of traveling, we made it to the strip and got right to work on what would be a busy four days.

It was all work and just a couple hours of free time while in Vegas covering the Miss America pageant.

Just minutes after landing, we were off to the preliminary competition.

We saw Miss Pennsylvania, Jordyn Colao, perform her tap routine to Whatever Lola Wants.

The three hour time difference was one of the most challenging obstacles to overcome while in Vegas.

My photographer Craig Rouse and I had an early wake up call Thursday morning to send a story back for the noon show.

The day continued as we went to a news conference for 13 former Miss America's, followed by interviews with Miss Pennsylvania and Louisiana.

Friday was spent inside Planet Hollywood with a news conference with the co-hosts.

I had the chance to chat with The Bachelor host, Chris Harrison, for a couple minutes.

We then talked to Miss Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri for our sister stations across the country.

The 53 contestants were busy Friday at rehearsals while camera crews blocked the live show.

The Colao family held a reception for Jordyn where we spent time with everyone from Erie.

Saturday was the big day, and the first chance we got to eat breakfast!

But right after, we got down to business, working on our story for Saturday night.

We got to the show early for the start of the program, followed by a news conference with the new Miss America, Mallory Hagen.

Miss America was joined by the seven celebrity judges including Sam Champion, Mary Hart and Cheryl Burke.

But we weren't done with work yet.

We put together our story for the Sunday newscast and sent our final story back home.

It was an amazing experience and exciting to watch a hometown woman represent Pennsylvania on the national stage.
