It was a confession heard around the world. Lance Armstrong admitted during an interview with Oprah Winfrey that he was indeed doping.
Armstrong, who won the Tour de France 7 times came clean during the interview.

For years, Lance Armstrong denied ever doping, and tried to dis-credit those that said he did.

The sport of cycling is big business. Millions of American's ride for pleasure or competition or belong to bicycle clubs.

We asked some local cyclists today if Lance Armstrong's admission will leave a black mark on the sport of cycling.

The owner of Competitive Gear, Peter McMaster said yes, at least temporally. But he said illegal substances have been part of all sports for years.

Competitive cyclist Craig Latimer said "there will always be someone who who wants to cross the finish line first and if they can find an extra advantage along the line, they'll take it."

Investigators say Armstrong cheated as recently as 2009, not 2005 as he claimed during the interview.

Comments

"Yes, but ....." I remain amazed that, despite his admission of cheating, some folks still try and twist the reality into some semblance of acceptability. The owner of the bicycle shop regurgitates Lance's weakest excuse: "everybody else was doing it". Or the female cyclist, who wishes that we could all separate the "bad" Lance from the "good" Lance. Grow up. Get over it - and quit enabling a cheater. Lance has turned out to be someone with both questionable talent and zero morals. Time to set your standards higher.
