Staying Safe In The Cold

January 22, 2013

Below freezing temperatures are hitting residents of Erie and the surrounding areas hard.

Wind chill temperatures are ten-below zero or even colder and have been throughout the day.

If you have to head out, make sure you are bundled up.

The cleveland clinic recommends that ears, and even noses be covered up when you're outside.

Keeping boots and gloves dry is the key to avoiding frost bite in these frigid temperatures.

For some, though, being outdoors is the only option they have.

Places like the Erie City Mission and the Upper Room in Erie, are shelters people can head to.

They're also known as warming centers and they offer people a place of refuge from the bone-chilling cold during the day.

Warm beds are offered at night as well, and can be set up through either shelter.

The employees are working longer hours and offering extra services.

They want to make sure people have somewhere to go to get out of the cold.

If you know someone who can use a meal and a warm bed, you can contact the Erie City Mission at (814)452-4421

The Upper Room contact number is (814)459-3983.

The best way to prepare for the nightmare winter weather in Erie is to move to another town. Anyplace is better (and safer for your family) than Erie during the winter.
