With all the snowfall the region has seen since Monday, PennDot crews have been working non-stop keeping the highways and byways clear of snow and ice.
But it's not as easy as loading the trucks with salt and hitting the roads.
Depending on the weather and temperatures, road crews have to decide what mixture to use on the roads.
They have to decide whether or not to use plain salt, or a mixture of anti-skid and salt, and to what proportion.
It all depends on Mother Nature.
The anti-skid mix is a mix of sand and gravel.
Chapman says each one of the PennDot trucks has a computer onboard that relays to the spreader how much material to use on the roads.
