Struggle for Control of Park Continues

February 12th, 2013

Day two of the Girard park struggle continued in court today.

The battle is between a group of summer residents at the Lake Erie Community Park and Girard Township.

The park was deeded to the township in 1941 for recreational use.
But now, the township wants to develop the park and has asked some park tenants to move off the land.

Supervisors say that Girard Township wants to use one section of the park for trailers and keep the rest open to the public.

The township, which owns the park overlooking the lake, is suing Lake Erie Community Park so they can gain power.

Plans to add hiking trails and pavilions are in the works for the township.
