Some Businesses Suffer Because of Peach Street Construction

watch video

FEBRUARY 13, 2013- It was back in November when construction was completed on the first phase of this $15.6 million dollar Peach Street construction project.

Some business owners say their stores have not completely recovered.

Kali's Candy Shop Assistant Store Manager Kathy Webb says the Peach Street construction halted business over the summer.

It has now been an uphill climb to drive people back.

She says over the summer both entry ways to Kali's were blocked off, causing locals and tourists to avoid the store altogether.

Now the local business has been forced to use marketing and coupons to bring customers back.

However, other businesses along Peach Street are on the rebound.

Nick Scott Sr. of Scott Enterprises says at first the construction caused a decline in business at his restaurants.

Since the lanes have expanded, business is back for the Scott's.

He says the completed project will be worth it in the end.

Construction is expected to start back up on this project in the spring and tentatively wrap in June of 2013.

Eventually the open space with the broad yellow lines will be turned into turning lanes getting onto I-90.
