Attorney General Rejects Privatization of PA Lottery

February 14, 2013- Political battle lines are drawn, as the Attorney General rejects Governor Corbett's contract to privatize the lottery.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane says the contract violates the Constitution and would hurt Pennsylvania.

    This contract would have let British Firm Camelot Global Services manage the 3.5 billion dollar Pennsylvania Lottery.

    Kane's decision came after Corbett undertook a 9 month process to hire this private company to replace state employees.

    Kane says the Corbett administration exceeded its authority under the Pennsylvania Constitution by not allowing legislature to make policy choices...

    Kane adds the Camelot Deal calling for Keno in bars and restaurants and online games in the future would violate both the state lottery act and the gaming act.

    Governor Corbett released a statement following Kane's announcement saying he is "Deeply disappointed."

    Corbett could still challenge Kane in court.
