Erie School Board Rejects 2 Charter School Proposals
Board members rejected Bishop Dwane Brock's and Gary Horton's proposed schools Wednesday evening.
Board members voted unanimously to reject Bishop Dwane Brock's Eagles Nest College Prep Charter.
The school would have operated 24 hrs a day five days a week where students would stay over night.
Brock says the challenge is that the board wanted commitment from his funding sources and those sources want solid commitment from board.
School Board Director Ed Brzezinskisays he supports Brock's idea, but finances need to be adjusted.
Gary Horton's New American's
Seven board members voted against it. However, board member Eva Tucker voted for it.
The school would have focused on teaching students English as a second language.
Brzezinski says programs are already available in the district for English as a second language, and segregation would be another issue.
Horton says that is not the case, as parents will send their kids willingly.
