Erie Man Indicted by Federal Grand Jury
February 21, 2013- An indictment handed down by a federal grand jury formally accuses an Erie man, Douglas E. Melter of soliciting an eleven year old girl to have sex with him. The indictment also accuses Melter of possessing child pornography on his personal computer, and of illegally owning a pistol.
According to the indictment, Melter was convicted of a felony crime in 2000, and is proscribed from owning a gun.
Melter had previously waived the charges in this case to trial and now awaits the scheduling of that proceeding by Federal Judge Maurice Cohill.
Melter has entered not guilty pleas to all charges.
He is presently in Erie County Prison awaiting that trial.
