Flu Numbers Continue to Drop as the Season Drags On

February 25th, 2013

It's very much like a cold that won't go away.

The steady but dismayingly slow decline in the number of confirmed flu cases in Erie county continues. As of today, 835 cases have been diagnosed by laboratory  testing and reported to the Erie County Health Department.

According to statistics tracked by the health department, flu cases began to decline at  the beginning of January, and have continued their downhill creep since then.

The health department says immunization is still a good idea, even this late in the season.  County Nurse Charlotte Berringer says that even a little protection is better than no protection at all.

Flu cases are far ahead of the pace last year when at  this point in the season only 55 cases had been identified.
