Annual Fish Kill on Presque Isle Shorelines
February 28, 2013
Something fishy is happening along Presque Isle Bay and the Lake Erie Shoreline.
Thousands of dead gizzard shad are washing up on the shorelines as part of the annual 'fish kill'. The fish are unable to tolerate the cold water temperatures, and as a result, die under the ice. As the ice melts, the fish wash up along the shorelineVisitors to Presque Isle should not be alarmed because this is a natural event, and is in no way caused by pollution.
