Two Artists Find New Ways To Express Emotion

watch video

March 1, 2013

Emotion was expressed in different forms, as two artists' transformed interpretative dance into a sculpture.

Valerie Gilman and Doug Lodge tell us they were showing their vulnerable sides today...

One danced, and another chose a standout moment from the dance, to create a masterpiece.

The process started in the morning...

As sculptor Valerie Gilman watched her partner Doug Lodge find new poses through interpretative dance that relates to her show... called The Cup.

Gilman says the cup is a symbol of a place of peace...

Lodge tells us all of his moves are unplanned intentionally, and that's the beauty of it.

Gilman spent some time taking pictures and videos of lodge, so the moment doesn't escape.

And once the two agreed on a pose, the sculpting can begin.

this is the first piece of lodge... Gilman says it reminded her of a longing for peace, and it's broken because it's intended to be a piece that falls apart over time.

Their work will be showcased at Erie Art Museum tonight from 7-10.
