Public Hearing on Liquor Store Privatization

watch video

MARCH 6, 2013-  Nearly 50 people attended a hearing by the State House Democratic policy committee at the Millcreek Township Building on the privatization of liquor.

Those against privatization argued the system in place is responsible and an effective way of alcohol distribution.

They say this system reduces risk factors and once you privatize- dui rates, hospital visits and problem drinking will go up.

They also say job loss is another major concern, saying big box stores would take over if the liquor system is privatized.

Those for privatizing liquor say the statistics are incorrect.

They say no money would be lost, and the education system would benefit from the 1 billion dollars raised through privatizing.

The system currently in place generates the state $530 million.

A voting meeting scheduled to consider the bill is on March 18th in Harrisburg.

Those against privatizing are hoping the bill will be tabled.

I don't know...other States have it privatized, and are STILL doing pretty well...maybe this is something PA. could do good on...But if it's Gov. Corbett doing it, you can bet he's going for his own profit...
