It was lights out for a large area of southern Erie last night.

According to a spokesman from Penelec a problem at the Erie South substation caused the blackout.
The areas effected included Millcreek, Summit, Fairview, Mckean and Waterford. All customers had power restored by midnight.
There was also a report a transformer fire on Peach Street near Superior Toyota around the same time as the outage.

According to officials, the transformer fire was not the cause of the outage, but may have been a result of it.
