Local Religious Figures Discuss New Pope

MARCH 3, 2013- In Erie, Bishop Lawrence Persico was quite excited about the news that the new Pope.

Jorge Bergoglio, now known as Francis the first, is the first pope born in the Americas.

Bishop Persico waited with employees of Saint Mark Catholic Center and other priests.

He says this is an exciting time, but Pope Francis has a lot of work ahead of him.

Father Gerald Wright of St JosephChurch says the Conclave's decision may have been quick; no one should question this choice.... And it is all part of God's plan.

And Mercyhurst University Professor Tom Forthoefel says Pope Francis' generosity and humility will speak to the more than 1.2 billion Catholics....

Across town workers from Allburn Florists spent the day hanging gold and white ribbons at local churches... They tell us it represents new beginnings and a new Pope...
