A student at Iroquois High School credits her teacher for "saving her life".
But in this case, no CPR was needed.
It was the love and caring of a teacher that turned her life around.
Jessica Kidd has been teaching for 8 years and says she's loved every day.
And it's because of students like Mellissa Schuler that makes teaching so special.
Melissa wrote that "Mrs. Kidd saved my life," some pretty powerful words.
Jessica Kidd says: "That is amazing Melissa, that is amazing. I really appreciate that. It makes what I do so worth it. Even if you touch one student, it's unreal.
Mrs. Kidd spends her days working with kids with difficulties.
Melissa suffered from Selective Mutism, which inhibited her ability to talk to others outside of her house.
That is until she met Mrs. Kidd.
Melissa Shuler, nominated Mrs. Kidd, says: "Before I came here, I was in a deep depression that I didn't know of. I was having a hard time in normal classes, and after I got out of the hospital, she brought me into her classroom and it changed everything. She made sure I was conformable, no matter what."
Mrs. Kidd: "I try to take each student and work with them and show them how much potential they really do have, what they have to give, and they all have so much to give."
But what you give back Mrs Kidd, is engraved in a child's mind forever.
Mary Jo Melvin, PhD, Edinboro University, says: "There's never going to be anything in this child's life that will be as memorable as their teacher taking the time and getting her to trust her enough to say those first words, and to come here today and speak in front of a camera, oh my goodness!"
