Community Gathers to Remember and Pray for Deceased Teen
The Erie community is gathering in prayer to remember an Erie teen who went missing.
His body was found floating in the Bay Monday afternoon.
It has been a whirlwind of emotions for Jacob Samusenko's family.
Now, the family and several community members gathered at the site where his body was found for a prayer vigil.
Jacob Samusenko went missing back on January 29th as he was taking out trash in front of his parent's home on Erie's east side.
Search parties were held for him, but nothing turned up.
The Samusenko family's worst nightmare came to life Monday afternoon when police contacted them to tell them his body was found.
The body was identified through dental records.
Coroner Lyell Cook ruled Samusenko's death as an accidental drowning, no signs of foul play, and not a suicide.
The family tells us their strong faith has gotten them through this process.
They tell me they will be throwing carnations into the Bay to honor Jacob.
If you want to help out, a fund is set up at the PNC Bank in Jacob Samusenko's name.
A funeral will be held at Dusckas Funeral Home. No date has been set yet.
