House Passes Bill to Privatize Liquor Sales, Bill Moves to Senate
You could soon buy beer and wine in Pennsylvania supermarkets and private businesses, as lawmakers approve a liquor privatization bill last night.
After 7 hours of debate, House bill 790 passed by a vote of 105-90.
PA Governor Tom Corbett has been a strong supporter of liquor privatization.
He wants to spend the money raised from privatizing to improve public education.
According to the roll call on the house website, only 5 Republicans crossed party lines by voting "no."
But the bill must still pass a vote in the senate. State Senator Sean Wiley tells us that a majority of the calls and emails that he's been getting are all against the privatization, and he believes it's important to represent his constituents.
Wiley says he's anxious to participate in the senate debate, because there's a lot of support for modernization rather than privatization.
