Tainted Toothpaste
Tainted toothpaste is being recalled in four states.
The label says "Colgate," but what is inside is not only counterfeit, but also dangerous.
The tainted toothpaste is believed to be laced with a deadly chemical more likely to be found in your garage than in your medicine cabinet.
The five ounce tubes of toothpaste tested by the FDA were sold in discount stores in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Maryland.
"Made in South Africa" is printed on the outside of the boxes.
The FDA found that the tainted tubes of toothpaste contained the poisonous chemical Diethylene Glycol, which is the same chemical found in antifreeze.
The counterfeit packages can be identified by several mis-spellings on the box:
The words "is clinically" run together.
"South Africa" has an "I" in it.
Plus, "South African Dental Association" has an "X" in it.
