Day at the Beach: Road Safety

watch video
It's summer, and that means more people at Presque Isle State Park.

"With the summer crowds we get here, very heavy vehicle traffic, we get a lot of pedestrians, you'll see bicyclists on the road," said Assistant Park Manager Dorothy Krupa as she listed off some of the major concerns park rangers have about road safety.  "We really encourage people to keep your speed down and follow the speed limit," Krupa added.

The speed limit is 25 miles-per-hour.  Park rangers want to see you take it easy.  They enforce the driving rules, and they can pull you over.

The rangers also warn drivers to be careful at crosswalks.  They also say motorists should share the road with bicyclists.

"Have some patience and realize that bicyclists have a right to be on the roadway," Krupa said.

While you're taking it easy behind the wheel and looking out for humans, do not forget about Presque Isle's wildlife.

"You'll see the rabbits, you'll see the deer, you'll see the chipmunks and squirrels," said Krupa.  "Just slow down and give them time to cross," she added.
