The Girard Board of Education voted 7 to 1 Monday night to award a contract for school bus services to STA of Pennsylvania.
The contract begins on July 1st and lasts through June 30th, 2012.
The contract replaces Girards current district-owned buses and its district-employed bus drivers.
Union leaders are not happy with the boards decision, but the school board says the contract will save the district and taxpayers thousands of dollars.
The school board says the Girard bus drivers will be given preferential treatment if they apply to work for the new bus contractor.
Union drivers say working for that company will mean a cut in pay and benefits.
