breaking news
With people traveling into Erie to celebrate the holiday, the roadways seem more like parking lots. But beware of letting frustration get the best of you! Police officers are out in full force this holiday weekend and targeting aggressive driving…its called “Smooth Operator.” The Millcreek Township police Department and the State Police are conducting a joint enforcement effort to target those causing headaches on the roadways.
"Its specifically designed for those drivers who will go and weave in and out of traffic and cause no small amount of frustration to other drivers."
Law enforcement officials agree what starts out as aggressive driving often turns into road rage. But police officers want you to know red light violations, speeding, and unsafe lane changes will get you nowhere fast.
Aggressive drivers, consider this fair warning...operation “Smooth Operator” is underway! Police say road rage often leads to fatal accidents and hope this operation helps cut back on that.
"Our ultimate goal is to reduce the incidents of traffic crashes.”
Officers agree patience and common sense will help you have a safe independence day!
"Theres a lot of extra traffic on the roadways and people in a hurry to get to where they want to go. Be careful be mindful and be respectful to other people."
“You dont want to ruin your life or the life of someone else."
Operation smooth operator runs through July 7th.
