While one local police department was busy cracking down on drunk drivers and responding to alcohol-related calls on New Year`s Eve, another department says a lack of manpower kept them from being more aggressive. Millcreek Township cops increased patrols and targeted areas known for crashes and high volume of traffic. Officers made several D.U.I. arrests also responding to alcohol-related calls including public drunkenness and domestic disturbances. Erie Police, on the other hand, made no D.U.I. arrests. They only had eight officers on duty for New Year`s Eve, and say since budget cuts hit their force, they`ve been too shorthanded to designate D.U.I. patrols for the holiday weekend.
