Fire Destroys Erie House

Several city of Erie fire companies were called to a fast moving house fire tonight. It didn`t take long for flames to take over the structure. The 9-1-1 center received several calls around 8:15 tonight from neighbors who said smoke was pouring from the house in the 900 block of East 23rd Street. By the time the first units arrived, fire was shooting from the 3 story home. A mother and her 3 children were able to make it out of the burning house safely. They`re being assisted by the Red Cross. At least 3 Erie firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion. An ambulance from weslyville was also called to the city to assist. A rehab unit area was set near 23rd and Perry Street for firefighters because of the heat in battling tonight`s fire. Several streets in the area were closed to traffic. A fire investigator is looking for a cause.
