Council Meets With Union Leaders
Saturday`s meeting with council members and union leaders was a final attempt to cover all the options available.
Although leaders didn`t say no to the mayor`s request they were unwilling to take the proposal. It wasn`t an easy task to balance the budget as there was much opposition over the 15 percent health care contribution. When the council passed the 2007 budget, they slashed 16 firefighter jobs. Some firefighters say they are already short staffed, and other changes pose a danger to citizens ... their property ... and firefighters. Those cuts are effective at the beginning of the year.
