DECEMBER 27, 2012-  Give a teacher a gun to defend themselves and their students or keep guns out of the classroom?

In light of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary, that took the lives of 20 innocent children and 6 adults, school safety is on the minds of parents, educators and local politicians.

"I'm a gun person... And knowing guns prepares us," says Greg Lucas, a State Rep in the 5th District

Greg Lucas a state rep in the 5th district has taught hunter education and worked as a NRA instructor coach... He says guns in the classroom are necessary.... and could be the solution...

"I think NRA is right on track and personal experience on how it's going down and working on legislation for that now."

Representatives in Texas have even proposed a bill that would allow teachers with proper education and certification to carry weapons in the classroom.

Lucas says proper training and courses would be needed for educators to carry weapons in the classroom, but this could prevent future tragedy.

"You have to have qualified people and education is way it'd have to go and things worked out."

But some local legislators say research needs to be completed before anything is done....

"I don't know if adding more guns to the equation on adding more guns to classroom is answer but it's the beginning of dialogue," says Sean Wiley Democratic Senator Elect.

"I don't think there's one set solution to alleviate problems we've seen recently... I think we need to go back get more info and mental health," Ryan Bizzarro Democratic State representative in the 3rd district.

The Teacher's of the Wild West had to...they couldn't depend on the Sheriff to always be there when something happened, now, could they? What's wrong with teaching the interested Teacher's, the "Correct" Way to handle a gun? Nothing! They CAN and DO protect YOUR Children, let them do it the "BEST" way they can possibly do that then!

of course the bleeding hearts want to look at just mental illness....but seriously, guns will forever be in america, and mental illness will forever be in the world, so let's start arming and training teachers to protect students. and for the folks who want to ban assault rifles, good luck. sales just increased so that won't happen. instead of fighting the losing battle (gun control) how about training and arming??? and as for mental illness, well, if folks see the signs and don't say anything, then what gets done?? nothing..... arm the teachers already.
