Downtown businesses were booming over the weekend as people celebrated St. Patrick's Day.

The annual parade was Saturday afternoon and people of all ages stayed downtown well into the evening.

With the holiday falling on a Sunday this year, the crowds continued well into Sunday night.

John Buchna of the Erie Downtown Partnership says business owners were happy to see new faces from all around Pennsylvania.

The businesses he spoke with early Monday morning said the numbers were up this year, or in some cases, equal. It's more than eating and drinking establishments, it's retail groups.

Buchna also says that businesses hope the St. Patrick's Day patrons will make their way back to downtown Erie on a more regular basis.
