Target 24: Texting and Driving Part 2

By: Administrator
Updated: September 18, 2012

Headed down the highway, a cell phone in one hand and a steering wheel in the other - it's just not a good idea.

When it comes to advances in technology you take the good with the bad.

Distracted driving causes more than a million accidents each year.

Last year in Pennsylvania alone 13,790 crashes were caused by distracted driving.

80% of crashes and 65% of near crashes are caused by distractions.

Texting while driving contributes to that statistic increasingly each day.

While you're consumed by technology a lot can pass you by.

Texting behind the wheel can spell trouble.

Taking on too many tasks on the roadway is all too common for teens, but adults can be just as guilty.

While adults often say the right things, our examples don't always measure up.

Seatbelt use, obeying the speed limit, and focusing on the road often fall into the category of do what I say, not what I do.

It's not only the texting and driving that is causing all of these accident's, it's also "talking" on the cells & driving,I've had several attempted accident's prevented because the other driver's were talking on their cells and hadn't even paid attention to what they were doing, coming over in my lane, driving over from the oncoming lanes, and just pulling out of a drive without looking, but they ALL had cells pasted to their ears! People in cars,in big delivery trucks too.If people in a grocery store walking,& talking on a cell can't pay attention to what's going on, how can a driver? I think ALL cell phone use behind the wheel should be prohibited! If it's an emergency, pull over & call!!
