November
2, 2012--Crawford County has seen 14 suicides in 2012.
The number isn't much higher or
lower than years past.
But its the increasing number in
young suicides that has officials worried.
Scott Schell is the Crawford County
Coroner and says in years past the average age of those who committed suicide
is 50.
This year the average age is 34.
The youngest this year was 15 year
old Jordan Shaffer.
The unnatural deaths are generating
upset in a community. That's why Schell is working to supply information to
Mela Calomino Zinz and others at Crawford County Human Services who want to do
something about the problem.
Through
community efforts the Crawford County Suicide Task Force makes available access
to experts to help prevent disaster.
The task force just recently met with all five superintendents in the county and is planning to implement awareness and education in schools.
