NOVEMBER 13, 2012-"You didn't build that" was a controversial phrase used during the Presidential campaign.

But the truth is they did build that.

Laborers built new buildings and projects downtown and along the bay front.

These laborers and architectures have transformed our city.

Twenty-five years ago this was a different town.

    The waterfront was desolate.

Primarily used for fishing and exports.

Fast forward to today where new businesses, homes and structures line it.

Architects from Weber Murphy Fox say cities across the country began to rediscover waterfronts back in the late 1980's.

    And officials moved forward.

A series of projects prompted these men to build up and bring hope back to the city.

Architects from the firm say three public projects were the most controversial, but the most used and beneficial today.

The Bicentennial Tower, Blasco Library and Maritime Museum and Jerry Uht Park were no easy feat.

It took years to get approval on the Blasco Library and Maritime Museum...

Weber Murphy Fox architectural firm was hired by both the state and the county to build the museum and the library....

They say it was unusual because it shared the same lobby and heating system.

And it took more than five years to complete.

Back in 1994 construction began on the Bicentennial Tower.

Officials say people were unsure of how that would work out...

The public doubted building off of water and making a structure so tall.

    Today, it defines our city.

And finally, the Jerry Uht Park wasn't met without some controversy.

People were shocked that public money was used for recreation.

Architects say it was the quickest project.

It began in 1994 and finished up in 1995.

The future of these structures and those yet to be built are the foundation of Erie.
