County Council is also prepared to approve a 2% hotel tax increase that one
member says will largely benefit the county..

Right now the county's hotel tax is at 5%...officials tell us last year the hotel tax brought in close to $2.6 million, and with this 2% raise... They're expecting a million dollars added onto that.
County Councilman Phil Fatica tells us he's confident that the county's hotel tax will be passed...

The approval could hike the hotel tax up two percentage points... From 5% to 7%.

John Oliver of VisitErie tells us this boost could make a huge difference in their ability to promote Erie as a destination for more tourists.

The additional revenue will allow VisitErie to promote tourism in bigger markets utilizing a multitude of media... To send a message that Erie has a lot to offer.

Oliver tells us the problem has been within their budget... And he explains, hopefully, with the 2% raise in hotel taxes, things will change for the better.
