Mercyhurst Poll Finds Pennsylvanians Oppose Arming Teachers

February 11, 2013- In the wake of Sandy HookElementary School shooting and a spur of gun violence, MercyhurstCenter for Applied Politics picked the brains of registered voters.

    They found a majority opposed arming teachers.

    The MercyhurstCenter for Applied Politics polled 485 registered voters across the state over the course of one week...

    The result finding a majority of 56 percent rejecting proposal of arming teachers in the classroom.

    Those opposed largely say they don't own guns.

    A slim majority of 51 percent favored the proposal, those living in a home where a gun is present.

    With President Obama's State of the Union Address approaching, the poll also found that Pennsylvanians support proposals by his administration.

Some of those proposals including universal background checks, mental health screening policies and increasing penalties on gun trafficking.
